WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING A CUSTOMS BROKER?
- Peace of mind – we ensure your shipment is completed according to the very latest laws and regulations. By using Icotex in this expertise, you don’t need to learn it for yourself or employ someone in house to specialise in this area
- Deal solely with one organisation – rather than having to speak to several different government agencies individually
- Avoid overpaying or underpaying duty or VAT – and then facing fines and additional charges later
- Avoid delays at the customs border – your goods won’t be released by UK customs until all the duty and VAT is paid, and documentation is in order. Using a customs broker can reduce delays and keep your business moving
- Additional services – we can also offer additional services, such as tracking your delivery as it moves from the point of origin
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Icotex prefers to offer a tailored service and quote as our fee will depend on the products you’re importing, their value and point of origin. For example, if your goods need licensing this could mean we need to spend more time working with your case than with a client who’s products don’t need licensing. We’re always completely transparent and there are never any hidden costs. Every client receives an itemised quote to cover all aspects of your case including items such as:
- Customs clearance charge – this is an admin cost, usually a flat fee
- Airline handling – assessed by delivery weight or any port authority fees levied for sea freight
- Airline bond transfer fee – assessed by delivery weight
- Airline or port storage if this is needed during the customs clearance
- Government agency fees for inspections
- Bank transfer fees and agency fees, if we pay HMRC on your behalf
- Onward delivery costs if needed
IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME?
If you’re relatively new to importing, then having the support of a customs broker to navigate the customs processes is certainly helpful. Not only does it reduce the stress of importing your items, but also allows you time to focus on your business. So many businesses turn to a customs broker for assistance.
Using a customs broker will also mean any risk associated with importing e.g. not paying the correct tariffs or completing paperwork correctly or on time, are gone. That’s money well spent.
